Description of the Journeyman Lodge Property
The Journeyman Lodge is situated on 17 acres (7 hectares) of rainforest jungle. Located in the Osa peninsula near the village of Dos Brazos which is 12 kilometers and a bumpy 30 minute truck ride outside of the main town of Puerto Jimenez where you fly into. The Journeyman Lodge is on the Rio Tigre, a 1 hour hike up the left side of the river from Dos Brazos almost to the Corcovado Park National Park border.
The property is surrounded by secondary and primary rainforest and sits 30 feet above the river bed. The front side of the property is bordered by the river, the left side by a private reserve, the top side by mountain ridge and the right side by a stream. One acre of flat land where the buildings are located and another 16 acres of for wildlife and fruit trees.
Travel to the Property
From your departure city, you will fly to San Jose, Costa Rica. From San Jose take a cab to the domestic airlines of Sansa or Nature Airlines. From San Jose it is a 45 minute flight to the town of Puerto Jimenez.
From Puerto Jimenez to the small town of Dos Brazos is a 30 minute cab ride. Remember, purchase extra needed supplies at the grocery store and give yourself at least 1 hour to hike up to the property.
Once you reach Dos Brazos stay to the left over the bridge and the road will dead end into the river. You will literally follow the river upstream for an hour hike until you reach the Journeyman Lodge. It is probably best if you ask a local to hike with you to the lodge. Ask at the Pulperia Toucan or Soda Caiman for a local to assist if you are looking for help.

Birding
Birding is one of the most popular activities on the peninsula besides the fishing and visiting the National Park. There are more than 400 species of birds identified on the Osa peninsula and over 350 of those birds have been identified in and around the property.
Money
The Costa Rican currency is colones. It is not imperative that you have colones while in Costa Rica and it is actually possible to go your entire trip using only the U.S. dollar. The U.S dollar is widely accepted in Costa Rica. Make sure to bring a sufficient amount of smaller bills as change will be given in colones. If you want to exchange money there is a local bank and ATM in Puerto Jimenez. Credit cards are taken at some businesses.
History of Dos Brazos, Puerto Jimenez and the Osa Peninsula
Dos Brazos is an old gold mining and farming town. Electricity was installed in 2006 and a bridge was constructed over the Rio Tigre a couple of years prior. There are two little stores and one phone that works intermittently. Dos Brazos is a town of 150 to 200 people with as many dogs.
Until the 1960’s the Osa peninsula was one of the most remote places in Costa Rica. Then logging started and gold was discovered. Corcovado National Park was established in 1975 to protect the natural resources, plants and animals. Puerto Jimenez increased in size because of the logging, gold mining and other Costa Ricans moving to Puerto Jimenez to help with tourism. Puerto Jimenez can be described as a sleepy western style frontier town that is the gateway to incredible sport fishing, surfing, beaches, ecotourism and the Corcovado National Park.
Description of the Flora and Fauna
A country like Brazil may have more species but no country has more birds and mammals per 10,000 sq. km., 615. There are over 1,300 types of orchids, 2,000 species of trees and over 10,000 species of vascular plants. Costa Rica also has over 850 species of birds any many endangered species. There are around 26 National Parks which comprise over 10% of the country.
